Chris Ballance (born on 7 July 1952) is a Scottish writer and politician. He is a member of the Scottish Green Party. Since 2022, he has been a local councillor for the Aird and Loch Ness area in the Highland Council. He also used to be a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the South of Scotland region from 2003 to 2007.

About Chris Ballance
Chris Ballance was born in Worcester, England. Before becoming a politician, he owned a second-hand bookshop in Wigtown. He is also a talented writer. In 1990, he won an award called the Scotsman Fringe First Award at the famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He also wrote short, funny scenes (called sketches) for Radio Scotland.
His Political Journey
Chris Ballance was first elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2003. As an MSP, he worked on the Enterprise and Culture Committee. He was also the Green Party's manager for parliamentary business and spoke about important topics like culture and peace. He tried to be re-elected in 2007 but did not win that time.
In August 2007, he was chosen to join the Scottish Broadcasting Commission. This group was set up by the Scottish government to look at how TV and radio worked in Scotland.
Chris Ballance continued his political work at a local level. He ran as a Green candidate for the Aird and Loch Ness area in the 2017 Highland Council election. He ran again in 2022 and was successfully elected as a councillor. This means he helps make decisions for the local community in the Highland area.
