Early Life and Career
Chris Gailus studied Broadcast Journalism at Mount Royal University in Calgary. He graduated in 1989. During his time there, he was a good student, making the Dean's List, and also played basketball.
He started his career in Lethbridge, Alberta, working there for three years. In 1992, he moved to Calgary to work at CFCN-TV. Later, in 1997, he joined another station called CICT-TV.
Career in the United States
Chris Gailus moved to the United States in 2000. He started working in Dallas, where he anchored the morning news for WFAA-TV. An anchor is the main person who presents the news program.
In April 2003, he moved to New York City. There, he joined WNYW and became an anchor for their morning show, Good Day New York.
Return to Canada and Global BC
Chris Gailus came back to Canada on May 1, 2006. He joined CHAN-TV, also known as Global BC, in Vancouver. He first worked as a weekend anchor.
By September 2010, he became the main anchor for the Monday to Friday editions of the News Hour. This happened after the longtime anchor, Tony Parsons, moved on. Since October 2020, Chris Gailus has been anchoring the "Global News Hour at 6" on weeknights. He co-anchors this show with Sophie Lui.
Movie Appearances
Besides his work as a news anchor, Chris Gailus has also appeared in movies. He played a news anchor in the film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007. He also had a role as a news anchor in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which came out in 2020.
Personal Life
Chris Gailus is married to Jane Carrigan, who is also a news anchor. In August 2011, they became parents when they adopted their son, William Alexander Gailus.
