Chris Getzlaf (born January 9, 1983) is a former Canadian football player. He was a "slotback," which is a type of receiver. Chris played in the Canadian Football League (CFL). His career lasted from 2007 to 2017. He was picked by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2007 CFL Draft. Later that year, he joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He also played for the Edmonton Eskimos. Before becoming a professional, he played junior and college football. This was in his hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan.

Chris Getzlaf was born and grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan. He played both football and ice hockey as a kid. His younger brother is Ryan. Ryan is a very famous hockey player. He won the Stanley Cup and two Olympic gold medals. Chris is married to Tia.

Chris Getzlaf had an exciting career in Canadian football. He played for three different teams.
Starting with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Chris was chosen by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2007 CFL Draft. He was the 33rd player picked overall. He played in two games that season. For the rest of the year, he was on the practice team for two different clubs.
Playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders (First Time)
On August 19, 2007, Chris was traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was on their practice team when the Roughriders won the 2007 Grey Cup. This meant both Chris and his brother Ryan were champions in 2007. Ryan won the Stanley Cup with his hockey team.
Chris started the 2008 season on the practice team. But many receivers got hurt. So, Chris got to play his first game for the Roughriders. This was on October 3, 2008. In this game, he made his first CFL catch and scored his first touchdown. He ended the game with five catches for 47 yards. He played in the last five games of that season. He finished with 15 catches for 247 yards and two touchdowns.
In the 2009 season, Chris started as a backup receiver. After a teammate got hurt, Chris became a starter. He had a great game with 101 yards and two touchdowns. One touchdown was a 65-yard catch that helped his team win. This was his first game with over 100 receiving yards. He kept his starting spot for most of the season. He led his team with six touchdown catches. He also helped his team win the West Final. He signed a new contract with the Roughriders in 2010.
In 2012, he signed another contract extension. Chris was named the Most Valuable Canadian player in the 101st Grey Cup in 2013. He signed another contract to stay with the Roughriders until 2015. After the 2015 season, he became a free agent.
Time with the Edmonton Eskimos
On February 25, 2016, Chris signed with the Edmonton Eskimos. He played for them for about a year and a half. The Eskimos released him on September 26, 2017.
Back with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (Second Time)
On October 16, 2017, Chris joined the Roughriders' practice team again. He was moved to the main team on November 12. Chris Getzlaf announced his retirement from football on January 4, 2018.
