Christopher "Chris" Don Houston (born October 18, 1984) is a former American football player. He played the cornerback position in the National Football League (NFL). A cornerback's main job is to stop the other team's receivers from catching the ball.

Houston played college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks. He was then chosen by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2007 NFL draft. He also played for the Detroit Lions and was briefly with the Carolina Panthers.

Chris Houston grew up in Austin, Texas. He went to Mendez Middle School and later LBJ High School. In high school, he was a talented athlete who played both football and basketball.

On the football field, he played two positions: running back on offense and cornerback on defense. During his senior year, he focused on being a cornerback, which is the position he would become famous for in the NFL.

College Football Career

From 2003 to 2006, Houston attended the University of Arkansas. He played for their football team, the Razorbacks. In his junior year, he played so well that he was named to the All-Southeastern Conference second-team. This is an award given to the best players in one of college football's toughest conferences.

During his time with the Razorbacks, he made 89 tackles, caught three interceptions, and even scored a touchdown.

After a great junior year, Houston decided to leave college early to become a professional football player. He entered the 2007 NFL draft.

All values from NFL Combine

Before the NFL draft, top college players are invited to an event called the NFL Combine. At the Combine, players are measured and tested on their speed, strength, and agility. This helps NFL teams decide who they want to draft.

Houston showed amazing strength at the Combine. He did 27 repetitions on the bench press, which was the most ever for a player weighing less than 200 pounds. His fast 40-yard dash time of 4.32 seconds also proved he was one of the quickest players available.

Professional NFL Career

Atlanta Falcons (2007–2009)

The Atlanta Falcons were impressed with Houston and selected him in the second round of the 2007 NFL draft. He was the 41st player chosen overall.

In 2008, during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs, he made his first career interception. He didn't just catch the ball; he ran it all the way back for a touchdown! In his three years with the Falcons, he started in 37 games and made 166 tackles.

Detroit Lions (2010–2013)

In 2010, Houston was traded to the Detroit Lions. His best season came in 2011. That year, he led the entire NFL in interception return yards with 225 yards. This means that after he intercepted a pass, he ran for more yards than any other player in the league. He also scored two touchdowns that season.

He played for the Lions for four seasons. The team released him in 2014 because of concerns about an injury.

Carolina Panthers (2015)

Houston signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers on June 15, 2015. However, he decided to retire from professional football just a few months later, on August 4, 2015.
