Christopher Kelechi Paul (born November 19, 1998) is an American professional football player. He plays as a guard for the Washington Commanders. The Commanders are a team in the National Football League (NFL).
Chris played college football for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The Commanders picked him in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft. Chris is also the grandson of Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, who was a former president of Nigeria. His younger brother, Patrick Paul, also plays in the NFL. Chris has even released R&B music under the name The Seventh.
Early Life and College
Chris Paul was born on November 19, 1998, in Houston, Texas. He went to Jersey Village High School in Texas. He was considered a talented player coming out of high school.
In 2017, Chris started playing college football at The University of Tulsa. He played for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team. He earned a bachelor's degree in computer information systems in May 2021. Before the NFL draft, Chris played in the 2022 Senior Bowl. This is a special game for top college players.
Professional Football Career
The Washington Commanders chose Chris Paul in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft. He was the 230th player picked overall. On May 6, 2022, he signed his first professional contract with the team.
Chris made his first start in an NFL game during the last game of his first season. This was a big step for him.
In 2023, Chris worked hard to earn a starting spot. He became the team's starting left guard in Week 8 of the season. This happened after another player was injured.
Personal Life
Chris Paul has an interesting family background. His grandfather was Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi. He served as the President of Nigeria in 1966.
Chris also has a younger brother named Patrick Paul. Patrick was chosen by the Miami Dolphins in the 2024 NFL draft. This means both brothers play in the NFL!
Outside of football, Chris Paul is also a musician. Since 2020, he has released R&B music. He uses the stage name The Seventh for his music.
