Christopher Scott Washburn (born May 13, 1965) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a center and was known for his size and athletic ability.

College Basketball Journey
Chris Washburn was a highly talented basketball player in high school. In 1984, he was one of the top three recruits in the entire country. He decided to play college basketball for North Carolina State University (NC State).
At NC State, he joined other future NBA players like Vinny Del Negro and Nate McMillan. This group formed one of the best recruiting classes in the nation. Washburn was a tall player, standing 6 feet 11 inches. He was also very fast for his size and had soft hands, which helped him catch and handle the ball well.
Playing for the Wolfpack
During his time at NC State, Washburn faced some challenges. There were questions about his dedication to his studies. Some people felt he did not work as hard as he could have. Despite these concerns, he showed great skill on the court.
In his main season with the Wolfpack, he averaged 17.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He shared playing time with other talented players, Charles Shackleford and Chucky Brown. One of his best games was against UNC on February 23, 1986. He scored 26 points, helping his team upset the top-ranked Tar Heels.
NBA Career Highlights
After his college career, Chris Washburn was chosen by the Golden State Warriors. He was the third player picked overall in the 1986 NBA draft. This was a very high pick, showing how much potential teams saw in him.
Time with the Warriors and Hawks
Washburn played for the Golden State Warriors for about one and a half seasons. He then played part of another season with the Atlanta Hawks. In total, he played 72 games in the NBA. He averaged 3.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Life After Basketball
After his professional basketball career ended, Chris Washburn moved to Houston. He later returned to his hometown of Hickory, North Carolina.
In 2011, he and his girlfriend, Monique Richardson, started a fried chicken business. It was called Washburn's Wings and More. The business was located in Hickory, but it closed in 2013.
Chris Washburn has two sons who also played college basketball. His third son, Julian Washburn, played for the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP). Julian later became a professional basketball player. Chris's younger son, Chris Washburn Jr., also played for UTEP. He later transferred to Texas Christian University (TCU) in 2013.
