High School Basketball Journey
Julian Washburn went to Duncanville High School. He played in many different positions there. He was a point guard, shooting guard, and small forward. In his final year, he scored about 16 points per game. He also grabbed seven rebounds and made three assists per game. Experts rated him as a top small forward in the country.
College Basketball Career
After high school, Washburn went to the University of Texas at El Paso. He played for the Miners team. He played 130 games during his college career. Julian scored 1,526 points, which is the sixth-highest in school history. He was also known for his strong defense. He could guard players in four different positions. He won the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year award in his senior year.
Professional Basketball Career
Starting with the Austin Spurs (2015–2016)
Julian Washburn was not chosen in the 2015 NBA draft. However, he joined the Golden State Warriors for the 2015 NBA Summer League. Later, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs but was waived quickly. On October 30, 2015, he joined the Austin Spurs. This team is part of the NBA Development League.
Playing in Germany (2016–2017)
After playing in the 2016 NBA Summer League, Washburn moved to Germany. He signed with a team called Tigers Tübingen. They play in the German Basketball Bundesliga league.
Back with the Austin Spurs (2017–2018)
On November 2, 2017, Julian returned to the Austin Spurs. He was part of their team for the 2017–18 season. In April 2018, he helped the Austin Spurs win a big championship. They became the NBA G League champions.
Playing in New Zealand (2018)
On April 17, 2018, Washburn signed with the Canterbury Rams. This team plays in the New Zealand NBL season.
Third Time with Austin Spurs (2018–2019)
Julian signed a special contract with the San Antonio Spurs on September 18, 2018. He was waived a few days later. On October 22, 2018, he joined the training camp for the Austin Spurs again.
Time with the Memphis Grizzlies (2019)
On January 15, 2019, Washburn signed a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies. This meant he could play for both the Grizzlies and their G League team, the Memphis Hustle. On April 10, he scored his highest points in a game, getting 8 points against the Golden State Warriors.
Playing for Delaware Blue Coats (2019–2020)
On July 7, 2019, Washburn was traded to the Golden State Warriors. He was waived by them shortly after. He then joined the Delaware Blue Coats. He averaged 6.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for them.
Playing in Mexico (2020)
On November 3, 2020, Washburn signed with the Dorados de Chihuahua. This team plays in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional in Mexico.
Return to Delaware (2021)
On January 14, 2021, Julian Washburn rejoined the Delaware Blue Coats. He averaged 7.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. He shot well from the field and from three-point range.
Playing in London (2021–2022)
On June 11, 2021, Washburn signed with a Canadian team, but he did not play for them. On July 9, he signed with the London Lions. This team plays in the British Basketball League (BBL).
Fourth Time with Austin (2023–2024)
On November 20, 2023, Washburn joined the Austin Spurs for the fourth time. He played for them in the 2023–24 NBA G League season. He was waived by the team on November 4, 2024.
