Christel DeHaan (born Stark, October 20, 1942 – June 6, 2020) was a German-American businesswoman and philanthropist. She was known for owning Resort Condominiums International (RCI). She also founded Christel House International, an organization that helps children around the world.

Early Life and New Beginnings
Christel DeHaan was born in 1942 in Nördlingen, Germany. Her father was a German soldier who died during World War II. When she was 16, her stepfather also passed away.
At age 16, Christel moved to the United Kingdom to work as a nanny. Four years later, when she was 20, she moved to the United States. She made her new home in Indiana.
Building a Successful Business
In 1974, Christel DeHaan started a company called Resort Condominiums International (RCI). She co-founded it with her husband at the time, Jon DeHaan. RCI was a new kind of company that helped people trade their timeshare vacations.
In 1979, Christel took over running the company. She became the main leader of RCI. In 1987, she became the full owner of the company.
A few years later, in 1995, Christel sold RCI. This sale made her very successful.
Helping Children Around the World
After selling her company, Christel DeHaan decided to use her wealth to help others. She founded an organization called Christel House International. This charity helps children in need by providing education, food, and support.
Christel donated a large amount of money, $220 million, to Christel House International. Her goal was to give children a chance for a better future.
Personal Life
Christel DeHaan had three children. She lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, US, for many years. She passed away at her home on June 6, 2020.
