How Christine Got Its Name
In October 1910, a town called "New Artesia" was going to become official. But when the paperwork reached Austin, officials said the name had to change. There was already another town in West Texas with that name.
The town leaders went back home and asked for new name ideas. When they couldn't decide, they asked their wives to choose. The ladies picked the name "Christine." They named it after Christine Andrews, who was the first baby girl born in the town. Her parents were James and Rieta Andrews.
The new paperwork was sent to Austin. Christine officially became a town on October 22, 1910.
