Christopher George Hewett (born April 5, 1921 – died August 3, 2001) was an English actor and theatre director. He is most famous for playing Lynn Aloysius Belvedere. This character was a clever English butler on the popular TV show Mr. Belvedere. The show was a sitcom on ABC.

Early Life and First Steps in Theatre
Christopher Hewett was born in Worthing, Sussex, England. His father was an army officer, and his mother was an actress. When he was just seven years old, Christopher first acted on stage. This was in a play called A Midsummer Night's Dream in Dublin.
At age 16, he joined the Royal Air Force. He left in 1940 and then joined the Oxford Repertory Company. In 1943, he made his first appearance in London's famous West End theatre.
From Broadway to TV Stardom
Christopher Hewett became a well-known actor on Broadway in New York City. He appeared in many musicals like My Fair Lady and The Unsinkable Molly Brown. He also acted in plays such as Sleuth. Besides acting, he also directed several stage shows.
He made his first movie appearance in 1951 in Pool of London. Later, he played a funny theatre director named Roger DeBris in the 1967 comedy movie The Producers.
In the 1980s, Hewett became a familiar face on American television. From 1983 to 1984, he played Lawrence, the helper to Mr. Roarke, on the TV show Fantasy Island.
His most famous role came the very next year. Christopher Hewett was cast as Lynn Aloysius Belvedere. This character was a polite English butler who worked for an American family. The show, Mr. Belvedere, was a big hit and ran until 1990. After Mr. Belvedere ended, Hewett made guest appearances on other TV shows. His last TV role was in 1997 on the show Ned and Stacey.
Life Beyond the Screen
Christopher Hewett was a very religious person. He was a Catholic and served at a church in West Hollywood. He never married.
In his later years, he faced health challenges. He suffered from arthritis and diabetes. Christopher Hewett passed away on August 3, 2001. He was 80 years old and died at his home in Los Angeles due to complications from diabetes.
