Christopher Neil, born in 1948, is a talented British record producer, songwriter, singer, and actor. He has worked with many famous musicians and helped them create hit songs.
Neil has produced records for popular artists like A-ha, Bonnie Tyler, Celine Dion, Cher, Mike and the Mechanics, Rod Stewart, and Shakin' Stevens. He has helped these artists make some of their biggest hits.
In 1973, Christopher Neil wrote a song called "Help It Along". This song was performed by Cliff Richard in a contest called A Song for Europe, where it came in third place. Later that year, Cliff Richard's version of the song became a hit.
Neil began his music career in the mid-1960s as a singer in a group from Manchester called the Chuckles. In 1972, he released his own solo album titled Where I Belong with RAK Records.
Acting Career
During the 1970s, Christopher Neil also worked as an actor. He played the role of Jesus in a play called Jesus Christ Superstar. He also acted in another play, Leaping Ginger, at the Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester. After these roles, he started focusing full-time on being a record producer.
In 1976, he was part of the original studio recording for the musical Evita. He played the role of the Eva Peron Fund Manager. One of his songs, "And the Money Kept Rolling In (And Out)", was later given to the character Che in the stage versions of Evita.
Neil also appeared in some films and TV shows. In 1976, he starred in the British TV series Rock Follies. From 1976 onwards, he was the host of the BBC children's television program You and Me, which was a popular show for young viewers.
