About Christopher Pike
Kevin Christopher McFadden was born in New York City in 1955. He grew up in California. He went to college for a short time. After that, he worked different jobs like painting houses and computer programming.
He first tried writing science fiction and mystery books for adults. But an editor suggested he try writing thrillers for teenagers. This was a great idea!
His first book for teens was Slumber Party. It was originally going to have a character with pyrokinesis (a psychic power to start and control fire). But his editor asked him to change it. So, he rewrote the book as a mystery thriller. It was about teens having strange and scary events during a skiing trip.
Scholastic Press published Slumber Party in 1985. It was a big hit! Pike's next book, Weekend, was also published by Scholastic. He wrote one more book for them, Chain Letter, in 1986. After that, he mainly worked with Simon and Schuster.
Pike kept writing many popular young adult novels. He also wrote a series for younger kids called Spooksville. This series was even made into a TV show in 2013. He also wrote some books for adults, like Sati in 1990.
Books Made into TV Shows and Movies
Christopher Pike's books are so exciting that some have been made into TV shows and movies! On November 25, 1996, his book Fall Into Darkness became a TV movie. His own company, Christopher Pike Productions, made it.
More recently, the movie maker Mike Flanagan became interested in Pike's books. He decided to turn The Midnight Club and The Season of Passage into a TV series and a movie for Netflix.
The Midnight Club TV series came out on Netflix on October 7, 2022. Just two days later, Mike Flanagan shared exciting news. He said that Netflix had actually bought the rights to "28 books" by Christopher Pike! His plan was for The Midnight Club TV series to last many seasons. The kids in the show would tell each other stories from other Christopher Pike books. However, in December 2022, the series was canceled after only one season.
