Chuflay

Chuflay is a popular traditional mixed drink from Bolivia. It's a refreshing drink often enjoyed at special events like weddings or parties. You can find it in many places, and it's usually quite affordable.

How Chuflay Got Its Name

The name "Chuflay" has an interesting history. It comes from English railway engineers who worked in Bolivia a long time ago. They mixed a local spirit called singani with ginger ale.

They called this new drink "Short Fly." This was a railway term for a quick shortcut or a temporary track built around an obstacle. The engineers used this name because the drink was quick and easy to make.

When Bolivians heard "Short Fly," they changed it to "Chuflay" (pronounced choo-flie). This name stuck, and the drink became a well-known Bolivian favorite.

What's in a Chuflay?

Making a Chuflay is simple! It's usually served in a tall glass with ice.

The main ingredient is singani, a clear spirit made from grapes in Bolivia. Then, the glass is filled with either ginger ale, 7-Up, or Sprite.

Often, a slice of lime is added as a garnish. This gives the drink a fresh, zesty touch.

Where is Chuflay Popular?

Chuflay is enjoyed in many parts of Bolivia. You can find it in departments like La Paz, Potosí, Oruro, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca, Santa Cruz, and Tarija. It's a common sight at gatherings and celebrations across the country.

Chuflay and Games

This drink is also often linked to a popular Bolivian dice game called cacho. People often enjoy a Chuflay while playing this fun game with friends and family.
