Chunky (candy bar) facts for kids
A Chunky is a yummy candy bar. It is made with rich milk chocolate, sweet raisins, and crunchy roasted peanuts. What makes Chunky special is its unique shape! It looks like a pyramid with the top cut off. Today, the Ferrara Candy Company makes Chunky. This company is part of Ferrero SpA.
The Story of Chunky
Chunky candy bars first appeared in the late 1930s. A candy maker named Philip Silvershein created them. He lived in New York City. Back then, Chunky had milk chocolate, raisins, cashews, and Brazil nuts. Philip Silvershein was friends with William Wrigley Jr.. So, the Wrigley Gum Company helped sell the candy bar.
In 1984, Nestlé took over the Chunky brand. They changed the recipe a bit. They kept the milk chocolate and raisins. But they switched to peanuts instead of cashews and Brazil nuts. Later, in 2018, Ferrero SpA bought Nestlé's candy business in the U.S. This included the Chunky bar.
Back in the 1950s, a Chunky bar cost only five cents. Most candy bars were that price. There was also a smaller version called the Chunky Cutie. It cost just two cents!
