The Church of Saint-Céneri-le-Gerei is a historic church in France. It is a Catholic church named after Saint Serenicus. You can find it in the small town of Saint-Cénéri-le-Gérei in north-western France. This church was built a very long time ago, between the late 1000s and early 1100s. It has been recognized as an important historical building since 1886.

History of the Church

Building this church began in 1089. It sits on a rocky cliff high above the Sarthe River. Before this church, an older one stood here. That church was destroyed by the Normans in the 900s. The new church was finished in 1125.

Building Style and Features

The Church of Saint-Céneri-le-Gerei is built in the Norman style. This style was popular in Europe during the 11th and 12th centuries. The church has a traditional layout. It includes a nave, which is the main part of the church. It also has a transept, which is like the arms of a cross. There are also small chapels inside. The church has a choir area with a curved apse at the end. The church was carefully restored in 2006.
