The Church of Saint-Céneri-le-Gerei (which in French is called Église Saint-Céneri-le-Gerei) is an old Catholic church. It's named after a saint called Serenicus. You can find this church in the small town of Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei in north-western France.

This church was built a very long time ago, between the late 1000s and early 1100s. It is considered a special historical building. It has been a protected monument since 1886.

Building a Historic Church

Work on the church began in the year 1089. It was built on a rocky cliff. This cliff overlooks the Sarthe river. Before this church, there was an even older church on the same spot. That church was dedicated to Saint-Martin du Mont-Rocheux.

The older church had been destroyed by the Normans in the 900s. The new church was finally finished in 1125. It was built in the Norman style. This style was popular in that part of France.

The church has a traditional layout. It includes a main hall called a nave. There is also a transept, which is like the arms of a cross. You can also find small chapels inside. The church also has a choir area. This part ends with a curved section called an apse. The church was carefully repaired and cleaned in 2006.
