The Church of St. Mary is a special church in Worsbrough Village in South Yorkshire, England. It's part of the Church of England, which is the main Christian church in England. It belongs to the Diocese of Sheffield, which is like a local area for churches.
This church is very old! It was built way back in the 1100s (that's the 12th century). Some parts of the church might even be older, from before the Norman Conquest in 1066. The building is so important that it's a Grade I listed site, meaning it's one of the most historically significant buildings in England.

A Look Inside St. Mary's Church
How Old Is This Church?
The oldest parts of the church, like some sections of the chancel (the area around the altar), were built by the Normans. This means they are from the 11th or 12th century. Imagine how many people have walked through its doors over hundreds of years!
Changes Over Time
The church wasn't built all at once. It was changed and updated many times. In the 1300s and 1400s (the 14th and 15th centuries), new parts were added. One cool addition was the south door, which has a special Gothic inscription from the year 1480. This shows how the church has grown and changed through history.
Remembering the Past
The Darley Main Colliery Disaster
The churchyard of St. Mary's holds a sad but important piece of history. In 1849, a terrible accident happened at the Darley Main Colliery (a coal mine) in Worsbrough Dale. Seventy-five miners lost their lives in this disaster.
These miners were buried together in a large grave right here in the churchyard. It's a quiet place that helps us remember the brave people who worked in the mines and the dangers they faced. The churchyard serves as a memorial to their lives and the history of the local community.
