The Church of St Peter is a very old church located in the village of Freshford, in the English county of Somerset. It was built way back in the 1400s! This church is also a special place called a Grade II* listed building. This means it's really important because of its history and unique architecture, and it's protected so it can be kept safe for many years to come.

History of the Church

The Church of St Peter stands on the north side of Freshford village. Some parts of the church are from the 1400s. Imagine, that's over 500 years ago!

The Tower and Its Features

The church has a tall tower with three sections. This tower was added in 1514. It has strong supports called buttresses on its corners. These buttresses help the tower stand strong and tall.

Victorian Changes

Many years later, the church was updated. This happened during the Victorian era, which was in the 1800s. This kind of update is called a Victorian restoration. A person named Charles Edward Davis helped with these changes.

The Churchyard

Around the church, there is a churchyard. Here, you can find several old tombs. These are called Georgian chest tombs. They were built in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Four of these tombs are also considered special listed buildings.

The Church Community

The Church of St Peter is part of a larger church group. This group includes churches in Freshford, Limpley Stoke, and Hinton Charterhouse. They all belong to the Diocese of Bath and Wells. A diocese is like a big area managed by a bishop in the church.
