The Church of the Immaculate Conception is a beautiful old Roman Catholic church building. It is located in a small community called St. Anna, Minnesota, in the United States. This church is part of the larger Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint Cloud.
The church was built in 1902. It was created for a rural community where many Polish immigrants had settled. In 1982, the church was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is a very important historical site for its architecture, how the area was settled, and its religious history. It shows how Catholic immigrant groups settled in rural Stearns County. These groups often formed small communities, or "hamlets," with a church at the center.
What is the History of the Church?
The community of St. Anna was started by Catholic immigrants from Poland. They settled near Pelican Lake. Their first church was a small wooden building. It was built in 1887.
Sadly, this first church was completely destroyed by fire in June 1902. But the community quickly built a new one! The new church was made of yellow brick. It was built during the winter of 1902. The church was officially opened in October 1903.
What is the Two Rivers Catholic Community?
The Immaculate Conception Church is part of a group of three churches. This group is known as the Two Rivers Catholic Community. The other two churches in this group are:
- St. Stanislaus Kostka in Bowlus
- All Saints in Holdingford
