About Chynybai Tursunbekov
Chynybai Tursunbekov was born in 1960. He studied at the Kyrgyz National University. There, he earned a degree in philology, which is the study of language and literature. Later, he got a special doctoral degree from the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences.
After finishing his education, Tursunbekov started working as an editor. He worked for the state publishing company in the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic. This was before Kyrgyzstan became an independent country.
Early Career and Business
When Kyrgyzstan became independent, Tursunbekov worked for his country abroad. He represented several of Kyrgyzstan's government departments. He helped build relationships with other countries.
With new economic freedoms in Kyrgyzstan, he also started his own businesses. This showed he was good at both government work and business.
Political Journey
In 2010, Tursunbekov was elected to the Kirghiz Supreme Council. This is like the parliament or main law-making body of Kyrgyzstan. He was part of the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan.
In 2016, the President of the Supreme Council, Asylbek Jêênbekov, stepped down. This happened because his brother became the Prime Minister. To avoid any conflicts of interest, Asylbek resigned. Chynybai Tursunbekov then took over as the President of the Supreme Council. This was a very important leadership role.
However, Tursunbekov left this position the next year, in 2017. He gave the role to Dastan Jumabekov. He did this to help keep the country stable during a time of change. There was some political uncertainty around the outgoing President, Almazbek Atambayev.
Later Life and Passing
On 6 July 2020, Chynybai Tursunbekov became very ill. He was taken to the hospital in Bishkek, the capital city. Doctors said he had acute pneumonia, a serious lung infection. He was also tested for COVID-19.
Sadly, Chynybai Tursunbekov passed away the next day. Many important political leaders in Kyrgyzstan attended his memorial ceremony.
