Château-du-Loir was a small town, also known as a commune, located in the western part of France. It was found in the Pays de la Loire region and was part of the Sarthe department.
On October 1, 2016, Château-du-Loir joined with another nearby commune to form a new, larger commune called Montval-sur-Loir. This means Château-du-Loir no longer exists as a separate commune.

What is a French Commune?
In France, a commune is the smallest unit of local government. Think of it like a town or a small city. Each commune has its own mayor and a local council.
The Role of a Mayor
The mayor is the leader of the commune. They are elected by the people who live there. The mayor's job is to manage the daily life of the town. This includes things like keeping the streets clean and making sure schools run well. They also help with local events and services.
How Communes Work Together
Sometimes, small communes work together on bigger projects. This is called intercommunality. For example, they might share services like trash collection or public transport. This helps them save money and provide better services for everyone.
France's Administrative Map
France is divided into different areas to help manage the country. These areas are like different levels of a big map.
Regions of France
The largest areas are called regions. Château-du-Loir was in the Pays de la Loire region. Regions help plan things like transportation and economic development for larger areas.
Departments of France
Inside each region, there are smaller areas called departments. Château-du-Loir was in the Sarthe department. Departments manage things like local roads and social services.
From Commune to New Town
The decision to merge Château-du-Loir into Montval-sur-Loir was made to create a stronger, larger town. This can help with managing resources and attracting new businesses. It's a way for towns to adapt and grow.
