Chênedollé was a small commune (a type of local government area, like a small town or village) located in the northwest of France. It was part of the region called Basse-Normandie and the department known as Calvados. On January 1, 2016, Chênedollé joined with other nearby communes to form a new, larger commune called Valdallière. This means Chênedollé no longer exists as a separate commune.

Where Was Chênedollé Located?

Chênedollé was found in the beautiful countryside of northwestern France. It was part of the Calvados department, which is famous for its apple orchards and dairy farms. The region of Basse-Normandie is known for its history and green landscapes.

Geography and Landscape

The area where Chênedollé was located had a varied landscape. Its elevation, or height above sea level, ranged from 182 meters (about 597 feet) to 246 meters (about 807 feet). The average elevation was around 309 meters (about 1,014 feet). This suggests that the area had some hills and valleys, making it a scenic place.

The total area of Chênedollé was quite small, covering only 6.91 square kilometers (about 2.67 square miles). To give you an idea, that's roughly the size of a few large parks put together.

Life in Chênedollé

Chênedollé was a very small community. In 1999, its population was only 221 people. This means it was a quiet place where most people probably knew each other.

Local Government

Like all communes in France, Chênedollé had a local government. The head of this government was the mayor. From 2008 to 2014, the mayor of Chênedollé was Rémi Labrousse. The mayor is like the leader of the town. They help manage local services and represent the people who live there.

Chênedollé was also part of a group of communes called an "intercommunality" named Vassy. This means it worked together with other nearby towns on certain projects, like waste management or public transport.

Why Did Chênedollé Merge?

In France, it's common for smaller communes to merge into larger ones. This often happens to help towns work more efficiently. By joining together, they can share resources and services. This can make it easier to manage things like schools, roads, and public safety. When Chênedollé merged into Valdallière in 2016, it became part of a bigger community.
