Biography
Early Life and Education
Cilia Sawadogo was born in Leipzig, Germany. Her father was from Burkina Faso, and her mother was German. She moved to Montreal, Canada, to study at Concordia University. There, she learned about animation, which is the art of making drawings or objects seem to move. She earned her degree in 1989, focusing on communication and film animation.
Filmmaking Career
After finishing university, Cilia Sawadogo started her professional career in animation and filmmaking. From 1992 to 1993, she created animations for the popular American children's show Sesame Street.
In 1993, she released her first big film, La femme mariée à trios hommes (which means The Woman with Three Husbands). This film won several awards. Throughout the 1990s, she made many short animated films. She often worked with the National Film Board of Canada, a famous Canadian film organization. In 1995, she also helped with a film called Jonas et Lisa.
Today, Cilia Sawadogo is a professor of cinema at Concordia University. She continues to create animations, design posters, and illustrate books.
