Cinderella is a small place in Mingo County, West Virginia, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a place with a shared identity but no official local government. It was also once a busy coal town.

History of Cinderella

How Cinderella Got Its Name

The community of Cinderella got its name in a very interesting way. In 1911, a post office was opened there. The name "Cinderella" was chosen because it was the same name as a famous character. This character appeared in the logo of a local mining company. So, the town was named after the company's logo! People have often noticed Cinderella for its unusual name. The post office stayed open until 1966.

Cinderella and Coal Mining

Cinderella was an important spot for the Norfolk and Western Railway. This railway was used to transport coal. Coal that was dug up from the Cinderella Mine was shipped out from this community. This made Cinderella a key part of the coal mining industry in the area.
