Cini Boeri's Career

Cini Boeri's design for the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara. She worked on this with Marco Zanuso.

Cini Boeri finished her studies at the Politecnico di Milano university in 1951. Back then, more women worked as interior designers than as architects. This was because some people thought women were not strong enough for outdoor construction work.

From 1951 to 1963, she worked with another designer named Marco Zanuso. After that, she started her own architecture business. She focused on designing buildings, interiors, and industrial products.

In the 1970s, Boeri began designing showrooms for a company called Knoll. These showrooms were in both Europe and America. She also created many sofas and chairs for Knoll. Some of these designs are still made and sold today!

Boeri also worked with other design companies. These included Artemide (for lighting), Arflex (for furniture), and Rosenthal (for home items). Because of her work with furniture and home goods, some people didn't realize she was also a trained architect.

You can find many examples of her work in museums and at international exhibitions around the world.

Awards and Recognition

Cini Boeri received many important awards for her work. In 1979, she won a Compasso D'Oro award for her "Strips" sofa design for Arflex. In 2008, she also received a Lifetime Achievement Award. This award came from the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles.

Later Life and Passing

Cini Boeri passed away on September 9, 2020, in Milan, Italy. She was 96 years old.
