Cipriano de Palafox y Portocarrero, the 8th Count of Montijo (born September 15, 1784 – died March 15, 1839), was an important Spanish nobleman, politician, and army officer. He was also the father-in-law of Napoleon III, who became the Emperor of France.

A Spanish Nobleman's Life

Cipriano de Palafox was known for being friendly towards France. He even fought for Joseph Bonaparte when Joseph was the King of Spain. During a battle, Cipriano lost an eye. For his service, he was honored in Paris by Joseph's famous brother, Napoleon I.

Later, after his older brother Eugenio passed away, Cipriano inherited the important title of Count of Montijo. He also became the lord of Moguer, a town in Spain. During his life, he became good friends with a famous French writer named Prosper Mérimée, who spent time in Spain.

From 1837 to 1838, Cipriano served as a senator for the province of Badajoz. This meant he was a representative in the government, helping to make laws and decisions for the region.
