Circleville Memorial Hall is a special building in Circleville, Ohio. It serves as a place for the community and also remembers people who served in wars. It was built after the American Civil War to honor those who were part of the war. Today, it is known as a historic site.
A Place for Everyone
In 1871, the state government in Ohio made a law. This law allowed counties to collect money to build memorials for the Civil War. Because of this law, Pickaway County built Memorial Hall in Circleville about 20 years later.
Besides being a war memorial, the building has many uses. The city's public library has been on the first floor for a long time. Also, the meeting hall on the upper floors is the biggest in the city. Many community events happen here.
Its Unique Look
Memorial Hall is three stories tall. It is made mostly of brick. It has a strong stone base and more brick and stone details. The outside of the building shows the Richardsonian Romanesque style. You can see this style in its round archways and strong stone walls. It also has stone trim around its windows and large columns. A big tower stands at one corner of the building. Inside, the main hall has a large balcony on the third floor.
A Historic Landmark
In late 1980, Memorial Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is a very important historic place. It was chosen because of its special and old architecture.
In recent years, the building has been updated. Local money, donations, and state funds helped with these changes. Workers fixed the roof and updated the heating and cooling systems. They also replaced outside windows that were leaking.
