Cisco Springs Oil Field facts for kids
The Cisco Springs Oil and Gas Field is a special area in Grand County, Utah, where people find natural gas and oil deep underground. It's like a hidden treasure chest of energy! This field is known for producing mostly natural gas, but it also provides some oil.
This energy comes from ancient rock layers called the Dakota and Morrison Formations. These layers are very deep, about 1,200 to 2,200 feet (366 to 671 meters) below the surface.
Who Operates Cisco Springs?
The Cisco Springs field is currently managed by a company called Running Foxes Petroleum, Inc. They are an independent company based in Denver, Colorado. Running Foxes Petroleum owns 100% of this field, meaning they are fully in charge of finding and bringing up the oil and gas.
Right now, the field mainly produces oil. This oil comes from a specific part of the Dakota rock layer, found along the western side of a geological feature called an anticline. An anticline is like a big, upward-curving fold in the rock layers. There are also some cracks in the rocks, called faults, that cross through this area.
Even though it's an oil and gas field, the production of natural gas has stopped for a while. This is because the prices for natural gas have been very low, making it less profitable to bring it out of the ground.
