Ciudad Cuauhtémoc is a town located in the southern part of Mexico. It is in the state of Chiapas. The town is part of the Frontera Comalapa area. It sits right on the border between Mexico and Guatemala. Across the border is the city of La Mesilla in Guatemala. In 2010, about 2,325 people lived in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc.

The town's name used to be El Ocotal. It officially changed to Ciudad Cuauhtémoc on November 18, 1943. This town is also important because it's where the Pan-American Highway ends in southern Mexico.

The Famous Carrera Panamericana Race

Ciudad Cuauhtémoc is famous for a cool event. It was the finish line for Mexico's first ever Carrera Panamericana road race. This big race happened in 1950.

What Was the Race Like?

The Carrera Panamericana was a huge car race. It started in Ciudad Juárez, a city way up north in Mexico. Ciudad Juárez is across the border from El Paso, Texas. The race lasted for six days. Drivers covered about 2,096 miles (3,373 kilometers). The finish line was right here in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc. This town is on Mexico's southern border with Guatemala.

Why Was the Race Held?

The Carrera Panamericana took place every year. It ran for five years, from 1950 to 1954. The race was a big celebration. It marked Mexico's completion of its part of the Pan-American Highway. This highway connects many countries in North and South America.
