Inside Tamaulipas, the municipality borders Camargo to the east and Mier to the west. To the north, it touches Starr County, Texas in the U.S. To the south, it borders the Mexican municipalities of Los Aldamas and Doctor Coss in Nuevo León.
A Brief History of the City
Ciudad Miguel Alemán was officially created on October 11, 1950. This happened by a decision from the government of Tamaulipas. General Raúl Gárate became the first mayor, or presidente municipal, of this new area.
The town was originally known as San Pedro de Roma. It was one of the first settlements in this region. However, it became much more important in 1927. That's when the international bridge was built, connecting it to the United States. This bridge made the town a key crossing point, and it was then given the title of "city" and became the center of its own municipality.
