Clair Lake is a natural lake in Quebec, Canada. It is part of the Noire River system. The lake is located in two towns: Sainte-Christine-d'Auvergne and Saint-Alban. These towns are in the Portneuf Regional County Municipality.

A road called Chemin du Lac-Clair goes all around the lake. The main activity here is forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. Another important activity is recreation and tourism, like visiting for fun.

Clair Lake usually freezes over in early December. It stays frozen until the end of March. People can safely walk or play on the ice from mid-December to mid-March.

Where is Clair Lake?

Clair Lake is located in a forest area. It is about 0.6 kilometres (0.37 mi) northeast of the Noire River.

Size and Shape of the Lake

Clair Lake is about 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi) long. Its widest point is about 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi). The lake looks a bit like a rectangle. It has five bays, which are small inlets of water. There is one bay at each corner of the rectangle shape. A fifth bay is on the east side of the lake.

Water Flow

The water from Clair Lake flows out from its southwest side. This water forms a small stream that flows for about 1.0 kilometre (0.62 mi). This stream then joins the Noire River.

The Noire River then flows south. After about 11.5 kilometres (7.1 mi), it joins the Sainte-Anne River. Finally, the Sainte-Anne River flows into the Saint Lawrence River.

Portneuf Regional Natural Park

Clair Lake is part of the Portneuf Regional Natural Park. This park covers a large area of 70 kilometres (43.50 mi). Many other lakes are also in this park, such as Long Lake, Montauban Lake, Carillon Lake, Sept Îles Lake, and Lac en Coeur.

The park is a popular spot for fun activities. You can find hiking trails there. There are also places to launch boats onto the lakes.

Name of the Lake

The name "Lac Clair" means "Clear Lake" in French. This name was officially recognized on December 5, 1968. It was added to the Place Names Bank by the Commission de toponymie du Québec.
