Clanculus (Euclanculus) leucomphalus Verco, 1905

Clanculus leucomphalus is a type of sea snail. It is a small mollusk that lives in the ocean. These snails belong to the family Trochidae, which are often called "top snails" because of their shell shape.

What Does It Look Like?

The shell of the Clanculus leucomphalus snail is quite small. It usually measures between 10 mm and 14 mm. That's about the size of your fingernail!

The shell has a unique shape, like a flattened cone. It has about six swirly sections, called whorls. These whorls get bigger as they spiral outwards. The shell is covered in tiny, smooth bumps, like little beads, arranged in rows. These bumps are called granules.

The shell is usually a light gray color. It might have faint patterns of darker gray or light brown. You might also see small pink dots on the second and third whorls. A special part of the shell, called the umbilicus, is pure white. The opening of the shell, called the aperture, has a shiny green, pearly look inside.

Where Does It Live?

This sea snail lives in the ocean around Australia. It can be found off the coasts of South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia.
