Clarence E. Anthony started his career in public service at a young age. In 1984, when he was just 24 years old, he was elected as the mayor of South Bay, Florida. He served as mayor for a long time, until 2008. This shows how much trust the people of South Bay had in him.

After his time as mayor, Clarence E. Anthony continued to work for cities on a larger scale. In 1999, he became the President of the National League of Cities (NLC). The NLC is a group that helps cities and towns across the United States work together and solve problems.
Later, in 2013, he was chosen to be the executive director of the NLC. This means he leads the entire organization. He helps guide cities on important issues like community development and public safety.
