Early Basketball Days
Clarence Kea grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina. He went to New Hanover High School there. This is where he first started playing basketball seriously. He became a talented player on his high school team.
College Hoops at Lamar University
After high school, Clarence went to Lamar University. He played college basketball for the Lamar Cardinals team. He played there from 1976 to 1980. His jersey number, 54, was later retired by Lamar. This means no other player will use that number, honoring his great time there.
Joining the NBA: Dallas Mavericks
In 1980, Clarence Kea was chosen in the 1980 NBA draft. The Dallas Mavericks picked him in the eighth round. He signed two short contracts with the Mavericks in 1981. Later, he signed for the rest of the 1980–81 NBA season. During that season, he played in 16 games. He averaged about 7 points and 4 rebounds per game.
