Clarinda was once a small community in southern Alberta, Canada. It was located in the County of Warner No. 5. Today, Clarinda is considered a "ghost town" or a former community.

It is found south of Highway 501. Clarinda is southeast of the town of Milk River. It is also east of the village of Coutts. The city of Lethbridge is about 60 km (37 mi) to the southeast.

What Was Clarinda?

Clarinda was a small, unincorporated community. This means it was a settlement that did not have its own local government. It was part of a larger county. Over time, people moved away, and the community became less active. This is why it is now considered a former community.

How Did Clarinda Get Its Name?

The name Clarinda has an interesting story. An early postmaster, who was in charge of the local post office, named the community. She decided to use the middle name of her mother, T. Clarinda Clark. This is how the area got its unique name.

Learning in Clarinda

Education was important in Clarinda, just like it is today. The Clarinda School District No. 2459 was officially started on June 10, 1911. This school district served the children living in the area. It was located in what was known as township 8 - 1 - 13 - W4. This shows that even in smaller, developing communities, schools were quickly set up to help young people learn and grow.
