Starting in Jamaica
Claude Davis was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He was the captain of a team called Hazard United. This team is now known as Portmore United. In the 2002–03 season, he led them to win the Jamaica National Premier League title.
In 2003, he moved to England. He joined Preston North End on a loan deal.
Time at Preston North End
Claude Davis officially joined Preston North End in July 2003. He first played for them on loan. Then, in March 2004, he signed a permanent deal.
During the 2004–05 season, he became a strong player for Preston. He played in 38 games. This included the Championship play-off final, where Preston lost. In the 2005–06 season, he was a key part of Preston's defense. The team kept 24 clean sheets, meaning they didn't let the other team score in those games. Claude won both the Player's Player and the Fans' Player of the Season awards.
Moving to Sheffield United
On June 14, 2006, Claude Davis signed with Sheffield United. This was a big move, costing £3 million. He signed a four-year contract.
However, he got a knee injury in August 2006. This meant he missed the start of the Premier League season. He played in 22 games for Sheffield United in total.
Playing for Derby County
On July 6, 2007, Derby County bought Davis for £3 million. They had just been promoted to the Premier League. He signed a four-year contract with them. There was a small delay with his work permit, but he officially became a Derby County player on July 25, 2007.
Joining Crystal Palace
In 2009, Davis went to Crystal Palace on a loan deal. He joined his old manager, Neil Warnock, there. He played a very important role in helping the team avoid being moved down to a lower league.
He was expected to join Palace permanently. However, the club had some financial issues. This stopped them from signing new players for a while. Once the problem was fixed, he joined Crystal Palace on a two-year contract. That season, he helped the team reach the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Time at Crawley Town
On September 15, 2011, Claude Davis joined Crawley Town. This team was in League Two. He helped the club go on a 13-game unbeaten run. He also played a big part in their promotion to a higher league.
He was the first international player to play for Crawley Town. He even captained the Jamaica National team during an international break that season. He also helped the community by becoming an ambassador for the team's junior program.
Playing for Rotherham United
On January 21, 2013, Davis signed with Rotherham United. He joined his former manager, Steve Evans, there. He helped Rotherham United get promoted two seasons in a row. They moved from League Two to League One, and then from League One to the Championship.
At the end of the 2014 season, his contract with Rotherham was not renewed. This happened even after they won the League One Play-Offs.
