Claude Davis's Football Journey
Starting His Club Career
Playing for Hazard United
Claude Davis was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He was the captain of Hazard United. This team is now known as Portmore United. He led them to win the Jamaica National Premier League title in the 2002–03 season. After this success, he moved to England. He joined Preston North End on a loan deal in 2003.
Time at Preston North End
Davis officially joined Preston North End in July 2003. His first season was a loan, but he signed a permanent deal in March 2004. During the 2004–05 season, he played in 38 games. He helped Preston reach the Championship play-off final. In the 2005–06 season, Davis became a key player in Preston's defense. He helped the team achieve 24 clean sheets. He also won both the Player's Player and Fans' Player of the Season awards. Preston reached the play-offs again that year.
Moving to Sheffield United
On June 14, 2006, Claude Davis signed with Sheffield United. This was a big move for him. He signed a four-year contract. However, he missed the start of the Premier League season. This was due to a knee injury he got in a friendly game. Overall, he played in 22 league and cup matches for Sheffield United.
Joining Derby County
On July 6, 2007, Derby County agreed to sign Davis. They had just been promoted to the Premier League. He signed a four-year contract with them. There was a small delay with his work permit. He was officially registered as a Derby County player on July 25, 2007.
Loan and Permanent Move to Crystal Palace
In 2009, Davis joined Crystal Palace on a loan deal. He reunited with his former coach, Neil Warnock. He played an important role in helping the team avoid being relegated. Davis was expected to join Palace permanently. However, the Football League placed a transfer ban on the club. This was because of unpaid money to former players. Once the ban was lifted, he joined Crystal Palace permanently. He signed a two-year contract. During this time, he helped the team reach the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Playing for Crawley Town
On September 15, 2011, Davis joined Crawley Town. This team was in League Two. He helped the club go on a 13-game unbeaten run. He also played a big part in their promotion campaign. He became an ambassador for the team's junior program.
Time at Rotherham United
On January 21, 2013, Davis signed with Rotherham United. He joined his former Crawley manager, Steve Evans. He helped the team achieve back-to-back promotions. They moved from League 2 to League 1, and then from League 1 to the Championship. His contract with Rotherham was not renewed at the end of the 2014 season. This happened even after they won the League One Play-Offs.
Representing His Country
