History of Clavijo

Clavijo has an interesting story, especially about a famous battle that might not have happened!

The Legendary Battle of Clavijo

For a long time, people believed a big battle took place near Clavijo in the year 834. This battle was said to be between King Ramiro I of Asturias and Abd ar-Rahman II, who was a ruler from Córdoba. However, historians now agree that this battle was a made-up story. It was written about much later, in the 12th century. So, while it's a famous legend, the battle itself never actually happened.
