Greene's career as a judge began in 1990. He was first appointed as an Administrative Judge for District 7 in Anne Arundel County. This was a state court position. In 1996, he moved up to the Circuit Court. This court handles more serious cases.

His biggest appointment came in 2004. He was chosen to be a judge on the Maryland Court of Appeals. This is the highest court in the state. He served there until his retirement in 2019.
