Clearwater River (Quebec) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Clearwater River is a beautiful river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into Lake Guillaume-Delisle, which then connects to the huge Hudson Bay. In French, it's called Rivière à l'Eau Claire. This river is found in a northern part of Quebec called Nunavik, on the western side of the Labrador peninsula. It starts at Clearwater Lake and carries its water all the way to Lake Guillaume-Delisle.

Where the River Flows

The Clearwater River begins its journey at Clearwater Lake. This lake is also known as Lac à l'Eau Claire. The river flows west for about 70 kilometers (about 43 miles).

It eventually empties into Lake Guillaume-Delisle. This large body of water is more like a gulf. It connects to Hudson Bay through a narrow passage. This passage is about 5 kilometers (3 miles) long and is called "Le Goulet," which means "the narrows."

The area of land that collects water for the Clearwater River is called its watershed. This watershed covers a large area of 4,766 square kilometers (about 1,840 square miles).

A Special Park

Both Lake Guillaume-Delisle and Clearwater Lake are part of a very special place. It is called the Lakes Guillaume-Delisle-and-Lac à l'Eau Claire National Park. This park is huge, covering 15,549 square kilometers (about 6,004 square miles).

The park was officially created in 2012. This happened after an announcement by the Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Parks in Quebec. National parks help protect nature and wildlife for everyone to enjoy.
