Cleophus C. Hatcher (born June 18, 1925 – died August 1983) was an important American football coach. He led several college teams during his career. Before becoming a coach, he was a talented athlete himself. He played football, baseball, and track in college.

Early Life and Playing Days

Cleophus Hatcher went to West Virginia State University. There, he was a star athlete in the late 1940s. He played American football as a tackle. This is a key position on the offensive and defensive lines. He also played baseball and competed in track events. After his time at West Virginia State, he continued his studies at West Virginia University.

Coaching Career

Hatcher began his coaching career in the early 1950s. He was the head football coach at several colleges. From 1951 to 1952, he coached at Claflin University in South Carolina. In 1953, he led the team at Mississippi Valley State University. He also coached at Morris College in South Carolina. Later, from 1966 to 1968, he was the head coach at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. He also served as a backfield coach at Howard University from 1962 to 1965.
