Clifford Edmund Bosworth (29 December 1928 – 28 February 2015) was a British historian. He was an expert in the history and cultures of the Middle East. He focused especially on Arabic and Iranian studies.
His Life Story
Clifford Edmund Bosworth was born on December 29, 1928. His hometown was Sheffield, England. His father, Clifford Bosworth, worked for government offices. His mother was Gladys Constance Gregory.
He went to St John's College, Oxford for his first degree. He studied modern history there. Later, he earned his master's and PhD degrees from the University of Edinburgh. He studied the Middle East.
Before going to Edinburgh, he worked for the Department of Agriculture for Scotland. There, he met Annettee Ellen Todd. They got married in Edinburgh on September 19, 1957. They had three daughters together.
Mr. Bosworth taught at several universities. These included the University of St Andrews and the University of Manchester. He also taught at Princeton University in the United States. From 2004, he was a visiting professor at the University of Exeter. He passed away on February 28, 2015, in Yeovil, England.

Clifford Bosworth wrote many articles for academic journals. He also contributed to many books. He wrote nearly 200 articles for the Encyclopaedia of Islam. He also wrote about 100 articles for the Encyclopædia Iranica.
He also wrote for other well-known encyclopedias. These included Encyclopædia Britannica and Encyclopedia Americana. He was the main editor for the Encyclopaedia of Islam. He was also a consulting editor for Encyclopædia Iranica. This means he helped guide what went into these important books.
