Club Wild is a special club that started in 1998 in Melbourne, Victoria. It was Australia's very first club designed to be super friendly and welcoming for people with disabilities. The club's director is a musician from Melbourne named Phil Heuzenroeder. Today, Club Wild is run by a group called Wild At Heart Community Arts. They are based in North Melbourne, Australia. You can find out more at www.wildatheart.org.au.

What Club Wild Does

Club Wild is a unique place. It is run by and for people with disabilities. This means that people with disabilities are in charge and help make all the decisions. They create fun events like dance parties and music concerts.

These events happen in Melbourne and in country towns across Victoria. Some of these towns include Colac, Bendigo, Bairnsdale, and Wodonga.

How Club Wild Started

Club Wild began in 1998. It was a team effort by three groups: the Big Bag Band, Arts Access, and Community Music Victoria. They worked together with St. Laurence Community Services in Geelong to make Club Wild happen.

Workshops and Performances

Club Wild is based at the North Melbourne Town Hall. Here, they offer regular workshops. These workshops are for people of all ages who have different kinds of disabilities.

The workshops teach people how to get involved in every part of the dance parties. This includes performing and helping to run the events. It's a great way for everyone to show their talents and feel included.

Club Wild has also put on big dance parties for the International Day of People With A Disability. These special events took place at the famous Sydney Opera House in both 2004 and 2005.

Awards and Recognition

Club Wild has been recognized for its amazing work. In 2004, the City of Melbourne gave them a Celebrating Melbourne Award. This award was for "its achievements in making life in the City more accessible." It means Club Wild helped make Melbourne a better place for everyone, especially people with disabilities.
