Clueso's Music Journey
Early Days and First Steps
Clueso was born in Erfurt, Germany. He started making music in 1995. His stage name, Clueso, comes from Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther movies. In 1998, he met Andreas Welskop, who would become his manager. Clueso then released his first vinyl record, Clüsolo, that same year.
In 1999, Clueso moved to Cologne to work in a music studio. A year later, he signed a contract with a music label called Four Music. His first album, Text und Ton, came out in 2001. Around this time, he performed at big music events like the MTV HipHop Open.
Developing His Sound
In 2002, Clueso moved back to Erfurt. He recorded a tape called Rowdy-Club-Tape 2002. The next year, he began working on his second album, Gute Musik, which means "Good Music." This album was finished in 2004. It focused more on singing than rapping and did not have any English songs.
In 2005, Clueso took part in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2005. This is a music competition in Germany where artists represent their home regions. He sang "Kein Bock zu gehen" and finished in seventh place.
Reaching a Wider Audience
Clueso's third album, Weit weg, was released on May 19, 2006. In 2007, he performed a special concert in Berlin. He played his songs with a large orchestra called the STÜBAphilharmonie. This concert was also released as a DVD called Clueso Live.
In May and June 2007, Clueso was the opening act for famous German musician Herbert Grönemeyer on his "12-Tour." Later that year, Clueso was nominated for a "Best Live Act" award.
In September 2007, Clueso released the song "Lala." This song was made especially for the movie Leroy. On February 14, 2008, he competed in the Stefan Raab's Bundesvision Song Contest again. His song "Keinen Zentimeter" came in second place, just one point behind the winner. His fourth album, So sehr dabei, was released on May 30, 2008.
New Beginnings and Collaborations
In December 2010, Clueso released a book about himself called Clueso. Von und über. His fifth studio album, An und für sich, came out on March 25, 2011. That same year, Clueso worked with another famous German singer, Udo Lindenberg. They performed the song "Cello" together for Lindenberg's album MTV Unplugged – Live im Hotel Atlantic. This song was very popular and reached number 4 on the German charts.
After his album Stadtrandlichter reached number 1 in 2014, Clueso decided to work without his old band and management team. He wrote his next album, Neuanfang (which means "New Beginning"), about this change. This album also reached number 1 on the German charts.
After Neuanfang, Clueso started working on Handgepäck I ("Hand Luggage I"). This album is a collection of acoustic songs. He wrote and gathered these songs over seven years while traveling around the world.
