Clunette is a small, quiet place in Indiana, USA. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Clunette is part of Prairie Township in Kosciusko County.
You can find a few important spots in Clunette. These include the historic Hall Farm (Clunette, Indiana) and the Clunette Elevator. Just outside the community is the Clunette Cemetery. The Clunette United Methodist Church is also nearby in Leesburg, Indiana.
A Peek into Clunette's Past
Clunette has a cool history! It was first called Galveston. This name was given when the area was officially planned out in 1846. Later, in 1883, a post office opened here. It was named Clunette. The post office helped people send and receive mail until it closed in 1901.
The Clunette Cemetery
The Clunette Cemetery is a very old burial ground. It's located a short distance north and west of Clunette. You can find it by taking a lane off County Road 400 West. Some of the burials in this cemetery are from before the year 1800! That's a long, long time ago. The cemetery is no longer used for new burials today.
The Clunette Elevator
The Clunette Elevator is an important part of the community. It's a place where farmers can bring their crops, like corn or soybeans, to be stored or sold. As of 2013, this elevator has been owned and run by the same family for 62 years. That's a long time for a family business!
