Clyde Simms, born on August 21, 1982, is a former professional soccer player from America. He played in a big league called Major League Soccer (MLS) from 2005 to 2013. He also played for the United States national team.

Clyde Simms' Soccer Journey
Playing in College
Clyde Simms grew up in Jamestown, North Carolina. He went to Southwest Guilford High School. After high school, he played college soccer at East Carolina University. He played there from 2000 to 2003. During his time, he played in 72 games. He scored seven goals and helped set up seven others. He was even the team captain for his last three years!
Becoming a Professional Player
After college, Clyde didn't get picked by any Major League Soccer teams right away. Instead, he joined the Richmond Kickers in a league called the A-League. He had a good first year with the Kickers, starting 28 games.
His big break came in 2005. He was called to train with the U.S. national team. He really impressed everyone there! Even after some player issues were sorted out, they asked him to stay and train with the main team.
Clyde's amazing performance caught the eye of several MLS teams. On February 25, 2005, D.C. United signed him. In the 2008 MLS season, Simms played in 30 games for D.C. United. He started all 30 of those games, scored two goals, and made two assists. He hardly missed any playing time that season!
After playing for D.C. United for seven seasons, he moved to a new team. In December 2011, the New England Revolution picked him in a special draft. He signed a contract with them soon after.
Clyde played two seasons for the New England Revolution. He announced that he was retiring from playing soccer on February 13, 2014.
Playing for His Country
Clyde Simms played one game for the United States national team. This happened on May 28, 2005. He came into the game against the England national team right at the end, during injury time.
Awards and Trophies
With D.C. United
- Major League Soccer Supporter's Shield (2): This award goes to the team with the best record in the regular season. Clyde won it in 2006 and 2007.
- Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup (1): This is a big knockout tournament for soccer teams in the U.S. He won it in 2008.
NC Soccer Hall of Fame
- Inducted into the NC Soccer Hall of Fame on January 24, 2015: This means he was recognized for his great achievements in soccer in North Carolina.
