Coamo barrio-pueblo is a special part of Coamo, a town in Puerto Rico. It's like the main downtown area or the heart of the town. In 2010, about 6,685 people lived here.
In Puerto Rico, many towns have a "barrio-pueblo." This is usually where you find the main town square, the city hall, and a big church. It's a tradition that comes from Spain. Every year, fun festivals called Fiestas patronales (which means "patron saint festivals") happen in this central square.

The Main Town Square and Church
The central plaza, or town square, is a very important place in Coamo barrio-pueblo. It's where people gather for fun events and to socialize. It's busy from morning until night.
Rules for Town Squares
Long ago, in the early 1800s, Spanish laws called the Laws of the Indies set rules for how towns in Puerto Rico should be built. These laws said that the town square should be big enough for "the parties" (celebrations and festivals). They also said the square should be the right size for the number of people living nearby.
The laws also made sure that streets close to the square had comfortable walkways. These walkways were designed to protect people from the sun and rain.
The Church in the Square
Right across from the central plaza in Coamo barrio-pueblo is a Roman Catholic church. It's called the Parroquia San Blas de Illescas.
