History of Coats
Coats was started around 1887 by a man named William A. Coats. The city was named after him! In 1909, Coats officially became a city.
Long ago, a train called the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad used to stop in Coats. The town even had its own weekly newspaper called the Courant. The first post office in Coats opened in June 1887.
