Coburg was a small, unincorporated town located in Washington Township, within Porter County, in the state of Indiana, United States. An "unincorporated town" means it was a community without its own local government, usually managed by the surrounding county or township.
History
Coburg had its own post office starting in 1876. This important service helped people send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years before it closed down in 1906.
The community got its name from Cobourg, Ontario, a town in Canada. An early settler who moved to Indiana from Cobourg decided to name this new place after their old home.
Coburg was also an important stop on the railroad. It served as a "station," meaning trains would stop there. It was also a "shipping point," which means goods and products could be loaded onto trains or unloaded from them, helping local businesses and farms.
