Coca-Cola Black Cherry Vanilla and Diet Coke Black Cherry Vanilla were special kinds of Coca-Cola. They were launched in January 2006 by The Coca-Cola Company in the United States. The diet version used special sweeteners like aspartame and acesulfame potassium. It was sold as part of the Diet Coke family. You could find it in different sizes, like 20-ounce bottles, 2-liter bottles, and 12-pack cans.

What Was Black Cherry Vanilla Coke?

This new flavor came out around the same time that Vanilla Coke was being taken off shelves in North America. Also, at that time, Cherry Coke was renamed to Coca-Cola Cherry. It was a big change for Coca-Cola's flavored drinks.

How Popular Was It?

For the first six months, Coca-Cola Black Cherry Vanilla wasn't super popular. Only about 4% of all Coca-Cola drinks sold were this flavor. To compare, Coca-Cola with Lime made up 9% of sales. The diet version, Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke, was even less popular at 3%. Other flavors like Diet Coke with Lime (7%), Caffeine-free Colas (13%), and Coke Cherry (13.5%) sold more. Regular Diet Coke was the most popular, making up 26% of sales.

Why Did It Disappear?

Because not many people were buying Black Cherry Vanilla Coke, its sales were low. Then, in the summer of 2007, Coca-Cola Vanilla (Vanilla Coke) came back to the United States. With Vanilla Coke returning and low sales for Black Cherry Vanilla, Coca-Cola decided to stop making it.

A New Version Appears

Even though the original Black Cherry Vanilla Coke was discontinued, a similar flavor appeared later. You can find a version called Coca-Cola Cherry Vanilla at Coca-Cola Freestyle machines. These are special soda fountains where you can mix your own drinks. This Cherry Vanilla flavor became so popular that it was later released in cans and bottles in February 2020.
