Its Scientific Name
Scientists sometimes study plants and give them names. Later, they might find out that a plant they named is actually the same as another plant already named. When this happens, one name becomes a synonym for the other.
In 1995, a group of scientists including Henderson looked at Coccothrinax scoparia. They thought it might be the same as another palm called Coccothrinax miraguama. So, they considered C. scoparia to be a synonym of C. miraguama. This means they believed it was the same plant, just with a different name. The original name for Coccothrinax scoparia was given by a scientist named Odoardo Beccari.
